Gregory J. Smith (619) 531-5507
Important Notice to Homeowners
County Assessor/Recorder/Clerk Gregory J. Smith wants to alert homeowners
in San Diego County that they may receive an offer from Property Tax Assessor
Records Corporation, a private firm from Chicago, to file a Homeowners
Property Tax Exemption for a fee. Smith wants the public to know that
this exemption claim can be filed at absolutely no cost through the
Assessors Office.
According to Smith, the Assessors Office mails a simple, easy-to-follow
Homeowners Property Tax Exemption claim form to every new homeowner.
If the taxpayer owns and occupies the property as their principal place
of residence, they will be entitled to a homeowners exemption of
up to $7,000 off their assessed value for an annual savings of $70 on
their property taxes.
Smith encourages property owners to check the red-shaded area in the
lower left corner of their property tax bill to ensure that they are receiving
the homeowners exemption. If the exemption is not shown, and
the property is your principal residence, please contact the Assessors
Office immediately to request the necessary claim form at (619 531-5772.
