OBTAIN A MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE
IN PERSON
NOTE: MARRIAGE RECORDS ARE MAINTAINED ONLY IF THE MARRIAGE LICENSE WAS
ISSUED IN SAN DIEGO COUNTY
You may obtain a copy of a marriage certificate by coming to any of our office locations.
You will need to have the following information available when you arrive:
- The full legal birth names of the married couple.
- The date of the marriage.
PLEASE NOTE: If you had a confidential marriage license, only the married parties named on the certificate may request a copy and they will be required to show identification.
The cost for a certified copy of a marriage certificate is $13.00. Payment
may be cash, a check or money order made payable to the "San Diego
County Assessor/Recorder/Clerk".

For a copy of an application click here.
To request a certified copy of a Marriage Certificate by mail you will need to provide us with the following information.
- The full legal names of the married couple.
- The date of the marriage.
- The address where copy is to be mailed.
PLEASE NOTE: If you had a confidential marriage license, the request
must contain a notarized signature of one of the parties to the marriage.
The cost is $13.00. Please DO NOT send cash. The fee for searching is non-refundable, even if the record is not found.
